Bundoora Homestead Art Centre Presents: Mediterranean Exchange

Bundoora Homestead launches its Spring season with two new exhibitions:

'The Mediterranean Exchange'

‘The Mediterranean Exchange’ is a solo exhibition by Raphy. From Palermo to Piraeus, Marseille to Marrakech, Australian eucalyptus trees grow wild all over the Mediterranean. Curiously, they are most abundant in areas with significant migration to Australia, such as Sicily and Greece. In these regions, a kind of exchange has occurred — people for trees. Raphy’s new exhibition of ceramics and moving image explores the correlation between these regions, linked through the symbol of the Eucalypt. By juxtaposing this iconic Australian tree with classic Mediterranean motifs, the exhibition reveals that the impacts of colonisation extend beyond Australia, leaving lasting effects worldwide.
