Preston Symphony Orchestra 34th Annual Youth Concerto

Our concert will give an exciting opportunity for six young soloists to play a part of a concerto with Preston Symphony Orchestra.
Six extraordinary young musicians appear with the Preston Symphony Orchestra for the 34th annual Youth Concerto Competition. This competition is open to solo instrumentalists aged 19 and under. Applications opened in April, attracting entrants from across Melbourne and finalists were chosen by audition to perform with the orchestra. This year the finalists range in age from 12 to 18. The concert includes the Symphonie Espagnole for violin by Lalo and the alto sax in the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto. The Viola Concerto by the English composer York Bowen is also included, as well as the Dvorak Cello concerto, the Sibelius Violin Concerto and the Beethoven Piano Concerto no 1. The concert will be conducted by Gerald Keuneman. The compere will be Phillip Sametz the radio presenter, the adjudicator is Molly Kadarauch, the cellist from the Sutherland Trio, and Darebin Mayor Cr. Julie Williams will present the prizes.
