Opening Event: Ganbu Gulin
Launching FUSE Digital 2021, Ganbu Gulin celebrates and recognises First Nations peoples, and invites all residents, old and new, to be officially welcomed onto Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country.
The Ganbu Gulin digital program features a Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Welcome to Country with Uncle Bill Nicholson, dance performances from Djirri Djirri, a live streamed performance by acclaimed local musician Pirritu and excerpts from Arterial by Na Djinang Circus.
Ganbu Gulin will also launch the online premiere of the documentary, Ganbu Gulin: One Mob, available to view here for the duration of FUSE. This short film tells the story of Darebin Council’s decision to cease observing January 26 as Australia Day, and the evolution of Ganbu Gulin – an inclusive annual event that provides a platform for traditional owners to welcome new citizens in their own way.
We are proud to offer this online program in lieu of a live event while we wait for the time when we can walk on Country together again.
This event is for the entire Darebin community. Ganbu gulin: one mob.
FUSE Darebin acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people who are the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which this event takes place. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and culture, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Many of the group have danced since they were young children, while others have learnt as adults. Their dances are created to honour their Liwik (Ancestors), Kerr-up-non (Family), Biik (Country) and animals. They are all related by blood through one woman, Annie Borate, William Barak's sister. They teach their dancers to also sing in Woiwurrung language, their Mother Tongue. |

Strange and melodic chords frame this songwriter’s vocals that weave around his lyrics like a gentle wind, enticing you into the depths of his personal journey, singing you a story of both sadness, love and hope. |
