Like A Persian
She’s a brown refugee who likes her boys like her tea: sweet, weak and white. Sammaneh Poursh is a tattooist, poet and pizza enthusiast born in revolutionary Iran.
In a charming blend of spoken word and confessional comedy, this one-witch show tells Sammaneh’s story: from the tumult of Tehran to the problematic paradise of tropical Queensland; From an experimental art colony in the UK to the hipster Mecca that is Melbourne.
Like A Persian is a deeply personal and engagingly funny exploration of what it means to be a queer person of colour in a post 9/11 world. It explores her playful and bizarre relationship with her deeply cultural family, and tackles issues of cultural identity, global politics, and comedy as coping mechanism.
