Happy Backyard Chooks
ABC Organic Gardener writer and Jessamy Miller is a chicken expert with a lifetime of experience keeping happy healthy hens.
In this workshop, Jessamy will focus on keeping chooks as part of the productive urban backyard garden, as well as introduce you to her own purebred layers.
You will learn how to create the ideal poultry setup that protects chooks from weather and predators, looks attractive, and meets their physical and emotional needs, plus what to feed your chooks to keep them healthy and productive.
Lastly, Jessamy will cover local council requirements, how to put your flock to work for you, and what to grow for them.
For anyone who has considered adding chooks to their garden system, or wants to brush up on their chook management skills from the expert, this is the workshop for you!
The Backyard Harvest Festival is opening home food gardens for tours and workshops get you inspired to grow your own fresh healthy food. This includes include sessions on keeping backyard chooks and quails, organic pest and disease management, composting, aquaponics, and fruit tree pruning techniques – as well as guided tours of some of Darebin’s most abundant private food gardens and community gardens.
